Angola Prison Rodeo

Date: Sunday, April 21, 2013
Building: Reily Student Recreation Center
Location: uptown campus

The longest running prison rodeo in the country, the Angola Prison Rodeo, is an event you must see before leaving New Orleans. We’ll travel north to the LA State Penitentiary where this hog-tying, bull riding, and craft making extravaganza began back in 1965. What began 40 years ago as a "fun" thing by a handful of rodeo-loving inmates and employees is now big business.  Proceeds from the Angola Prison Rodeo cover rodeo expenses and supplement the Louisiana State Penitentiary Inmate Welfare Fund which provides for inmate educational and recreational supplies. Make sure to bring some shopping money so you can bring home a souvenir or sample some festival cuisine! Costs include transportation, entrance fees and dinner (lunch will be on your own).

Sponsored by: Reily Recreation Center

Open to: Graduate students, Undergraduates

Ticket Information: Register in Reily Member Services. $20.00
