Opening Reception for Resident Sculptor Andy Behrle's "a year and one day"

featuring A Studio in the Woods Resident Sculptor Andy Behrle

Date: Wednesday, December 19, 2012
Time: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Location:
Longue Vue House and Gardens, 7 Bamboo Road, New Orleans

A Studio in the Woods and Longue Vue House and Gardens are pleased to present "a year and one day," an outdoor sculpture by Ebb & Flow Resident Artist Andy Behrle sited on Longue Vue’s Oak Lawn. As stated in his proposal for the residency: “During my time with A Studio in the Woods, I will create a New Orleans style tomb that will be covered with layers of dirt and mud at Longue Vue House and Gardens. Over time, rain will erode portions of the structure and nourish grasses, ferns, vines, fungi, and wild flowers that Longue Vue’s Garden staff will cultivate in collaboration with the sculpture. Throughout the year, plants will come and go, sprout and mature, and eventually begin to overwhelm the tomb. This project will display the beauty of Nature’s cycle of reclaiming humanity’s footprint while also serving as a chilling reminder of New Orleans’ precarious relationship with water and the ecosystems created by the hand of man.” To see photos of the work in progress, please visit Andy’s flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/andybehrle/sets/72157631997090362/ The opening reception for this work is Wednesday, December 19, 2012 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Longue Vue. The work will be on view through December 20, 2013 with the price of museum admission.
