As a film director, Ingmar Bergman is of course very well-known. As a stage director, he is little known outside Scandinavia because of the language barrier. At the same time Bergman is one of the relatively few film directors who divided himself rather evenly between theatre and film (in addition to TV, radio, opera). Author of twenty books, Dr. Tornqvist was one of the few scholars who has attended Bergman rehearsals in the 1970s. In this talk, he will present on the intersections of drama and film by exploring what the renowned filmmaker has done in the theatre, focusing on two productions: Ibsen´s A Doll´s House and Strindberg´s Miss Julie. This talk is sponsored by the Silverstein Film Fund
