Freedom Sunday, December 6, 1987, was the historic gathering in the Washington National Mall of 250,000 people protesting on behalf of Jews in the former Soviet Union who were singled out for special persecution. In the mid-1980s, Tulane became a center of Soviet Jewish advocacy, with campus rallies and a sympathy hunger strike supported by students and faculty alike. Nearly 100 Tulanians and New Orleanians traveled to Washington to participate in the rally. Jerry Goodman, the Founding Director of the National Conference at Soviet Jewry will be speaking at the event. Refreshment to follow.
