Sherrie Tucker (American Studies, University of Kansas) is the author of "Swing Shift: 'All-Girl' Bands of the 1940s" and the premier scholar of gender in jazz. She is co-editor of "Big Ears: Listening for Gender in Jazz Studies" (Duke, 2008) and has just completed a study of the Hollywood Canteen, "Dance Floor Democracy: The Social Geography of Memory at the Hollywood Canteen" (Duke). There will be a reception and the lecture is free and open to the public.
