Deployment for Post-Sandy Relief Efforts Topic of Monday, Dec. 3 Presentation at TSSW

Please join Master of Science in Disaster Resilience Leadership candidates, Geoffrey Grimes and Andrew Snyder, as they speak about their deployment to the East Coast to support the American Red Cross relief efforts. The event will be held on Monday, Dec. 3 from Noon to 12:50 p.m. in Room 103 in the Social Work Building. Lunch will be provided for attendees.

For the past two and a half weeks, Geoffrey Grimes and Andrew Snyder were deployed to the East Coast as trained and experience volunteers with the American Red Cross (ARC). Intently following the weather system as Hurricane Sandy struck the West Indies, Geoffrey and Andrew received a pre-call from ARC requesting available volunteers to assist.

The two and a half week deployment involved:

  • Driving emergency response vehicles cross country and in affected areas
  • Providing hot meals and relief supplies
  • Serving on the front lines of the affected areas, distributing supplies and support to the first responders and survivors of Superstorm Sandy.

"For us, this was more than just a chance to help and much more of a learning experience than any field trip would have provided. We gained real-world experience, while also being able to apply lessons and themes learned during the course of our program here at Tulane." -- Geoffrey & Andrew
