Dr. Svendsen has research interests in environmental and disaster epidemiology - predominantly of environmentally induced pulmonary illnesses. Between the Banda Aceh tsunami and the Hurricane Katrina disasters the USA experienced the largest public gassing since World War I. This research and presentation, which in part addresses a comparative industrial example, is increasingly relevant due to the current use of chlorine in the Syrian and Iraqi wars.
