Documentary Screening: Immigrants

featuring Laszlo Fulop and Marline Otte

Date: Friday, November 30, 2012
Time: 5:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Location:
Contemporary Art Center, New Orleans, 900 Camp street New Orleans

The new documentary by Laszlo Fulop (Film and Theatre Department University of New Orleans) and Marline Otte (History Department, Tulane University) addressed what gets lost when an individual voluntarily or involuntarily leaves his or her country of origin. What gets translated and saved at the end of the process? Which dreams become fulfilled, and which are surrendered? What is celebrated, and what is mourned? Which responsibilities are shed, and which new ones are shouldered? The film shows as immigrants change and adapt to their new surroundings, they transform themselves, and in the process transform the society they have entered.
