The Newcomb Art Gallery is proud to present a site-specific wall drawing installation by internationally renowned artist Pat Steir. Tulane University art studio students will directly assist with the execution of these two large scale installations, Self Portrait and Endless Line.
Since the mid-1980s, Steir has been known for her dripped waterfall imagery, which reveal her affinity for nineteenth-century Romanticism, Abstract Expressionism, and Chinese landscape painting. An equally significant, yet lesser known, part of her oeuvre are wall drawings and site-specific installations.
Steir’s work may be found in the collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art; The Museum of Modern Art; the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; the San Francisco Museum of Fine Arts; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum; the Tate Gallery, London; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY.
