Cactus Presents: "Kids for Cash"

A Discussion on Juvenile Injustice

 On Monday, April 7th, CACTUS will present the documentary "Kids for Cash", a riveting movie that focuses on the notorious judiciary scandals that took place in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania in which two federal judges accepted bribes in exchange for the ruthless imprisonment of 3,000 minors. CACTUS is thrilled to announce that this is the first time it has been screened on a college campus. Immediately following the screening there will be a panel discussion about the school-to-prison pipeline problem in the New Orleans community. Panelists will include Jerrod Hicks, the lead attorney on Second Chances Project, Jolon McNeil, the managing director at the Juvenile Justice Project of Louisiana, Emily Smith, from the Orleans Public Defenders, Ashana Bigard, from the Community Education Project of New Orleans, as well as Dr. Peter Sharf from the School of Public Health. Dinner will be provided at 6:00pm in the Freeman Auditorium in the Woldenberg Art Center and the screening will begin at 6:30pm. The discussion will follow after."
