WHY:                    For the fourth year in a row, A Studio In The Woods, will host FORESTIVAL - a celebration of art and nature. The festival showcases former artist/residents’ work as well as the history and happenings of this unique environment.

FORESTival is free (though a $5 donation is suggested) and open to the public, offering families a chance to experience Louisiana’s Wetlands set to live music, food, artistic demonstrations and more.

Food and drink are available for purchase and families can participate in several of the day’s activities including:

·         Art activities in the Kids’ Creative Corner

·         Tours of the woods with ASITW staff botanist David Baker,

·         Tours of the ASITW founders’ home led by founders Mr. & Mrs. Joe and Lucianne Carmichael,

·         Ben Fox-McCord of Press Street/Antenna Gallery silk screening t-shirts,

·         Presentations from former artists in residence at ASITW, as well as live music.

·         Adventures in clay with Jane Hill

·         Choreographer Monique Moss will reprise Katrina Cranes

·         Secondline with Nina Nichols’ giant puppet and the Louisiana Bucket Brigade Band

 

Live music including:

 

·         James Westfall & NOCCA Jazz Combo (Patron Brunch Only)

·         Sarah Quintana singing original compositions from The Delta Demitasse series (former resident)

·         Martin Berhman Charter School Academy of Arts and Sciences Band

·         Sunpie and Louisiana Sunspots

About A Studio in The Woods:

A Studio in the Woods, a program of Tulane University located in 7.66 forested acres on the Mississippi River in New Orleans, is dedicated to preserving the endangered bottomland hardwood forest and providing within it a peaceful retreat where visual, literary and performing artists can work uninterrupted. Programming includes community workshops in the arts and environmental preservation, and an outdoor classroom where students of all ages can experience and study the natural world. One of a few live-in artists’ retreats in the Deep South, A Studio in the Woods fosters both environmental preservation and the creative work of all artists.
