Christian Biet is Professor of the History and Aesthetics of the Theater at the University of Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense and holds the Chair of Theater, Law and Literature at the Institut Universitaire de France.  This term he is also a visiting professor at New York University’s Department of French.  Professor Biet is the author of numerous books on French theater, including Oedipe en monarchie (1994), Droit et littérature sous l'ancien régime (2002), Moi, Pierre Corneille (2006) and Qu'est-ce que le théâtre? (with Christophe Triau) (2006).  He has also edited or co-edited a number of anthologies and collective works including Théâtre de la cruauté et récits sanglants en France: XVIe–XVIIe siècle (2006), Histoire du spectacle militant: Théâtre et cinéma militants 1966-1981 (2007), Tragédies et récits de martyres en France: fin XVIe–début XVIIe siècle (2009) and Théâtre français du XVIIe siècle (2009).
