Children's Hospital Parenting Center - Breastfeeding support for nursing New Orleans mothers, in hospital or after discharge.

The Gift- A quality improvement and certification program for Louisiana birthing facilities that is based on the best practice model to increase breastfeeding initiation, duration and support. Is your birthing center certified?

GNOBAC- Greater New Orleans Breastfeeding Awareness Coalition is an organization of lay and professional persons with breastfeeding interest aimed at increasing awareness of the benefits of and support for breastfeeding in the New Orleans area.

La Leche League of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana - Your local connection to La Leche League, a worldwide mother-to- mother organization aimed at providing support, encouragement, information, and education. As well as to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother.

Louisiana Breastfeeding Coalition- Aimed at making breastfeeding the norm for all babies in Louisiana, the LBC is open to all with an interest in supporting breastfeeding initiatives in Louisiana.

Louisiana Lactation Consultant Association- Your local lactation consultant association.

The Mother's Nest- An IBCLC and RN, Marianna Clayton offers offers unique individualized, family centered breastfeeding support and care, available at her nest or yours.This includes, but is not limited to, lactation consultation, breastfeeding product delivery and demonstration, and social gatherings for breastfeeding families.

Books

Breastfeeding: Keep it Simple- Amy Spangler, author of Breastfeeding: A Parent's Guide, writes a clear, short and easy to understand book addressing parents most common questions.

The Breastfeeding Mother's Guide to Making More Milk- Written by two IBCLC's, this book discusses common concerns about low milk supply and how to increase your supply.

Medications and Mother's Milk- This book, by Dr Thomas Hale, is considered the most up-to-date and comprehensive book regarding medications and breastmilk.

The Milk Memos- This book started with a journal in a lactation room in IBM and chronicles real moms learning how to go back to work while continuing to breastfeed.

Nursing Mother's Herbal- Sheila Humphrey, an RN and IBCLC, writes about herbs, dietary supplements and how they affect the nursing mom and baby. It's affordable and easy to understand- a win-win!

The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding- The La Leche League's comprehensive guide and companion through pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and weaning.
