A mother-friendly business is one that allows reasonable break time for a lactating employee to express milk in a designated, private area that is not a bathroom (i.e. compliant with the law).

 Mother-friendly businesses work to increase the support of breastfeeding. They do this by promoting positive workplace culture, with the hopes of increasing duration rates of breastfeeding to 6 months or greater, reducing childhood obesity and illness, and decreasing healthcare utilization by both mother and child. 

A more comprehensive program includes additional components such as breastfeeding education and promotion.
