The mission of the CBR is to foster high impact research that crosses traditional disciplines of environmental science. CBR's staff is experienced with proposal preparation, financial and programmatic management of awards, and disseminating results through outreach and education.
The Center for Bioenvironmental Research at Tulane and Xavier Universities (CBR) was founded in 1989 with a $33 million grant from the Department of Defense to study bioenvironmental hazards resulting from DoD activities. Since then it has grown to encompass a wide range of environmental topics, with a particular focus on connecting Tulane and Xavier Universities through shared research and education initiatives.
CBR director Dr. John McLachlan stepped down in December 2011, after 17 years of service, in order to pursue his research as a professor of Pharmacology and Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Tulane University.
