        If you're considering an undergraduate nursing degree, enrolling in Army ROTC can enhance your leadership skills and critical-thinking abilities while providing financial support to help make your professional goals a reality. Being a Nurse in the Army provides you with opportunities not found in the civilian world. As an Army Nurse and Officer, you will have the respect of your peers and coworkers as well as opportunities to train and serve in a variety of specialties.

        Army ROTC's Nurse Summer Training Program will give you the opportunity to truly fulfill the promises of your training after graduation. Coordinating and communicating patient care, you'll be in a clear position to succeed.
Army ROTC And Undergraduate Nursing

        Nursing students who are also Army ROTC Cadets can benefit from unique hands-on nursing opportunities while receiving financial assistance for college. You will gain valuable leadership experience and management training that can benefit you in either a military or private-sector nursing career.
Scholarships

        Army ROTC program offers two-, three- or four-year scholarships for undergraduate nursing students. Contact your high school academic advisor or campus Military Science department for more information.

 

Nurse Summer Training Program (NSTP)


        Nursing students who are also Army ROTC Cadets have an opportunity for a unique summer nursing experience. The paid, three-week Nurse Summer Training Program assigns Cadets to Army hospitals throughout the U.S. and Germany.

        The program introduces you to the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) and to the roles and responsibilities of an Army Nurse Corps Officer. Under the supervision of an experienced Army Nurse Corps Officer, you will obtain hands-on experience. Your one-on-one clinical experience will allow you to hone your clinical skills, develop your problem-solving techniques and become comfortable with developing your professional skills as a member of the U.S. Army Healthcare Team.


 

Undergraduate Benefits

 

    * Several ROTC Nurse specific scholarships offered each year
    * 2, 3, and 4-year up to full tuition scholarships
    * $1200 for books per year ($600 per semester)
    * $350-$500 per month in spending money (depending on academic year)

Nurse Summer Training Program (NSTP) 

 

    NSTP is a clinical elective conducted the summer between your
junior and senior year. During NSTP you will receive experience
under the direct supervision of a preceptor -- an Army Nurse Corps
officer who works with you one-on-one at one of the several Army
hospitals.  You will be introduced to the roles, responsibilities and
expectations of a new officer in the Army Nurse Corps while gaining
progressive experience and leadership opportunities in a clinical
setting. 

What happens after Graduation?


    You will be commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States
Army.  After you pass the NCLEX, you will attend the Basic Officer
Leadership Course (BOLC) at Fort Sam Houston, Texas prior to
reporting to your first assignment.  Your total service obligation is
8 years; 4 years on active duty and the remaining 4 years either on
active duty or in the reserves.  

Advanced Education Opportunities


    Every junior is guaranteed a spot in the Generic Course Selection
Program.  The courses available for attendance through the Generic
Course Selection Program are:
    * Obstetrical/Gynecological Nursing
    * Critical Care Nursing
    * Perioperative Nursing
    * Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing

     Other Specialty Courses available, but not through the Generic
 Course Selection Program are:
    * Emergency Nursing
    * Preventive Medicine (Community Health Nursing)



    The second major educational opportunity is Long Term Health
Education and Training (LTHET). This program allows Captains and
above an opportunity to obtain their Master's degree in a multitude
of specialty areas and locations. Officers apply for and are accepted
to attend graduate programs following both clinical and administrative
avenues.  As full-time students working towards their Master’s
degree through LTHET, officers remain on Active Duty with full pay
and benefits.  Nurses may pursue degrees in the following
disciplines:
    * Nurse Anesthesia
    * Nurse Midwifery
    * Health Care Administration
    * Family Nurse Practitioner
    * Master of Science in Nursing in a number of approved areas including:
          o Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist
          o Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist
          o Nursing Informatics
          o Nursing Education
