Swiss Alps & Italian Lakes

Literary luminaries in the 19th century heralded the idyllic treasures of Italy’s Lake District and Switzerland’s snow-capped Alps in praise-filled travelogues. Since then, not much has changed in these pristine parts of Europe. Begin your exploration in St. Moritz, often called the Top of the World. Visit the Upper Engadine village of Zuoz, and board the Bernina Express for one of the most scenic rail journeys in Europe. Then, travel to the picturesque town of Como to experience la dolce vita in Italy! Cruise on lovely Lake Como, the deepest lake in Italy, and journey to cosmopolitan Milan. Visit its Duomo, La Scala Opera House and Santa Maria delle Grazie to view da Vinci’s The Last Supper. Sail to the Borromean Islands and admire their 16th-century villa, baroque palace and gardens, and picturesque fishing village.

Day 1 :
In Transit
Depart your gateway city for Zurich aboard scheduled jet service. (Provided for Air Program participants.)
Day 2 :
St. Moritz
Arrive in St. Moritz. Air Program passengers will be met by an AHI Travel Representative in the arrivals hall. Other passengers who arranged independent flights through AHI and are able to join the group transfer and Land Program passengers who have purchased a transfer from AHI should check the flight arrivals monitor and proceed to the group flight arrivals hall to join the awaiting AHI Travel Representative.

At your hotel, room keys will be distributed and luggage will be delivered directly to your room. Your AHI Campus Director will be with your throughout your journey to handle all program logistics and to assist with sightseeing arrangements, dinner reservations, shopping suggestions and more.
This evening, join your fellow travelers for a festive Welcome Reception and Dinner at the hotel.

Day 3 :
Zuoz/St. Moritz
Excursion: Zuoz.
Travel to Zuoz, a picturesque Upper Engadine village. A walking tour showcases its beautiful cobblestone main square, adorned with brightly colored flowers and bubbling fountains, as well as winding streets lined with brightly painted buildings, many built in the 13th century.
Independent Exploration: The rest of the day in St. Moritz is at your leisure. Use your gondola pass to ascend by tram to the mountaintop for spectacular views!
Educational Focus: An Introduction to Switzerland.

Day 4 :
Tirano
Excursion: Bernina Express.
This two-hour scenic journey traces one of Europe’s most impressively engineered rail routes. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, it is a memorable experience.

Day 5 :
Bellagio/Como
Depart St. Moritz for Como. Travel by motor coach alongside Lake Como to Menaggio, situated on the western shore.
Excursion: Lake Como Cruise.
Embark on a scenic cruise on Italy’s deepest lake from Menaggio to Bellagio and Como.
Local Flavor: Sample regional specialties during lunch in Bellagio.
Upon arrival in Como, check in at the Hotel Barchetta Excelsior.

Day 6 :
Como
Excursion: Como.
A walking tour of the walled Old Town features the Baradello Tower, Tempio Voltiano shrine and the impressive Duomo in the Piazza Cavour with its Gothic façade and Renaissance dome.
Independent Exploration: Pursue your own interests this afternoon.
Educational Focus: Golden Age of the Renaissance.

Day 7 :
Milan
Excursion: Milan.
In Italy’s most fashionable city, visit Santa Maria Delle Grazie and its rectory to see da Vinci’s magnificent The Last Supper. Tour the museum at La Scala, Italy’s premier opera house, and the 14th-century Duomo, a Gothic masterpiece ornamented by 2,244 marble saints and nearly 100 gargoyles.
Local Flavor: Lunch is served at a restaurant in Milan.
Independent Exploration: Set out to discover your own corner of Milan.

Day 8 :
Borromean Islands
Excursion: Borromean Islands.
Journey to Stresa for a short walking tour before embarking on a cruise on Lake Maggiore. The first stop is Isola Madre and its 16th-century villa. Then, sail to the rustic fishing village on Isola dei Pescatori. Conclude on Isola Bella to explore its baroque palace and gardens.
Local Flavor: Lunch is served at a restaurant on one of the islands.

Air Program
For your convenience, AHI offers a flexible Air Program featuring special air fares available at an additional cost in conjunction with the Land Program.
AHI has designated specific Group Air Schedules for this departure utilizing scheduled, round-trip jet service between North America and Zurich, Switzerland with return from Milan, Italy. Those participating on these flights will enjoy:
- Motor coach transfers between the arrival/departure airports abroad and the hotel, including baggage handling.
- Prices are dependent upon dates, air routes and class of service chosen and will be reflected on your Reservation Confirmation, which will be sent to you upon receipt of your reservation. Air schedules will be sent with your Final Invoice approximately 90 days before departure.
- Prices quoted to you will include all domestic and foreign governmental airport departure taxes and fees and any applicable fuel surcharges.
- AHI ticketed passengers will also receive Automatic $250,000 Flight Insurance, subject to policy terms.

OPTIONAL INDEPENDENT ACTIVITY T'ang Dynasty Dinner Show Xi'an, cosmopolitan capital of the T'ang Dynasty (618-907), was an important city on the Silk Road. Standing on the crossroad of commerce and culture, the city's affluence grew and the arts flourished as rulers of this dynasty embraced the many cultures introduced to the city. So admired was Xi'an that the ancient Japanese capitals of Nara and Kyoto were modeled after it. Join this excursion to an entertaining T'ang Dynasty Dinner Show that highlights the culture of this Chinese Golden Age. Enjoy the music, dancing and singing of this glorious period in Chinese history. back
