Accommodations MV Katharina von Bora With only 41 cabins, the deluxe MV Katharina von Bora provides and intimate cruising experience. With one crew member for ever 2.5 passengers, the ship offers a high level of service. Built in 2000, it was refurbished in 2005 and features original artwork throughout. The interior, which is a completely non-smoking environment, also has a panoramic bar and lounge. Enjoy meals in an elegant dining room. Afternoon tea and a midnight snack are served in addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Sun Deck has many deck chairs from which to enjoy the passing scenery. DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY DAY 1 Depart your gateway city for Berlin, Germany, aboard scheduled jet service. (Provided for Air Package participants only.) DAY 2 Upon arrival, transfer by motorcoach to the MV Katharina von Bora. (Provided for Air Package participants only.) Educational Focus: A Tale of Two Cities: East and West Berlin. This evening, attend a Welcome Reception and Dinner aboard the ship. DAY 3 Excursion: Berlin City Tour. Journey along the famous Unter den Linden and Ku'damm boulevards to admire the facades of both "sides" of Berlin. See remnants of the Berlin Wall, the Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, Charlottenburg Palace and the Reichstag Parliament. Local Flavor: Enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. Educational Focus and Excursion: Potsdam. In the Elegant capital of Germany's Brandenburg state, visit the site of the Potsdam Conference, Cecilienhof Palace. Learn about the historic 1945 meeting of the Allied leaders who redrew the borders and determined the fate of post-war Germany. See Sanssouci Park, a sprawling expanse of green and the site of the magnificent summer home of Frederick the Great. Then, enjoy free time exploring Potsdam's 18th-century baroque Dutch Quarter. DAY 4 Sped the morning cruising the Elbe River and the afternoon at leisure in Magdeburg. DAY 5 Excursion: Wittenberg. The birthplace of the Reformation, charming Wittenberg is steeped with historical significance. It is here that Martin Luther preached, taught and married, and where he led the German Reformation. See the Schlosskirche, the Parish Church with its 16-century altar, and the Town Hall. Educational Focus: Martin Luther and the Reformation. Excursion: Torgau. Visit ancient Torgau, former residence of medieval Saxon kings. Admire the lovely Renaissance Town Hall, the late-Gothic Marienkirche church and Schloss Hartenfels, a Renaissance castle with a chapel consecrated by Martin Luther. DAY 6 Excursion: Meissen Porcelain Factory. In the early 18th century, this ancient wine producing town became the home to the first porcelain production outside of the Far East. Tour the factory and museum and learn about the process for creating this exquisite stoneware, which has remained remarkably unchanged for centuries. Excursion: Dresden City Tour. The artistic and architectural treasures of one of Europe's most beautiful cities are on display-see the Brühlsche Terrasse, Frauenkirche, Semper Opera house and the baroque Zwinger. DAY 7 Excursion: Cruising the Saxon Alps. Today, the majestic landscape of the Saxon Alps unfold before your eyes. Relax and admire one of Germany's most scenic regions, referred to as the Switzerland of Germany. Tonight, gather onboard with fellow travelers for your Graduation Ceremony and a festive Farewell Reception and Dinner. DAY 8 Excursion: Prague City Tour. The graceful City of One Hundred Spires showcase its picturesque highlights built atop seven hills. Explore Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral, wander the storybook streets of Old Town, stroll across the Charles Bridge and marvel at the exquisite blend of architecture and natural beauty that characterizes Prague.
