Dear T Club Members and Friends:
We would like to extend an invitation for all former Tulane University letter winners to join is in fun and networking for the 2010-2011 athletic seasons. We will conduct football tailgates, the second annual 1st Year Letter winner's reception and a variety of other great events including our Inaugural Spring Flag football game.
In any organization such as ours, its strength and effectiveness is greatly influenced by our active membership, which has increased in the last five years and the potential is there to enhance the base more significantly. Our organization will only grow if we become more inclusive and reach out to diverse groups with an invitation to become members of our Board of Directors. There are so many talented and enthusiastic Tulane alumni with both passion and skills, and it is imperative that we seek out those talents and capitalize on those gifts. With that said, we need not lose sight of our young alumni. In reality, they have a more intimate relationship to our current student body and it will serve us well to have you represented on our board. If we are to succeed in the joint effort to ensure that we are meeting your needs and expectations, we need your support and participation. Come join us! We welcome your input concerning upcoming activities and events.
It is the time of the year that we ask for you once again to join the T Club for what appears to be a fantastic athletic year on the horizon. T Club dues are $50.00 annually if your graduating class were 2000 or earlier and $25.00 if you finished your career from 2001 to the Present.
I know that each of you are busy with personal, family and professional obligations, therefore, I appreciate your consideration and time. I look forward to seeing all of you throughout the upcoming sports seasons.
Look for the T Club banner at many of the Tulane home contests throughout the year.
Carmen Jones, President - T Club
• Jeremy Williams was selected the South's MVP in the 2010 Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL. Since 2001, Jeremy is the 9th Green Wave player to represent Tulane University in the annual event.
• The T Club, an athletic letter winning organization at Tulane, sponsored its 1st Year Letter winner reception on September 20, 2009 in the LBC. The first ever program of its kind at Tulane was formed for student-athletes that received an athletic letter after being on a specific team for at least a semester. In addition, the gathering signaled a holistic approach towards enhancing the athletic experience at Tulane, an understanding of what it takes to be both student and athlete while maintaining the core values of self.
The dinner consisted of 40 plus future T Club members representing various sports such as Basketball (m/w), Track & Field/Cross Country, Football and Volleyball. Each table was organized to have a T Club member from a different sport sit with the honorees to add a tangible appeal to the event’s purpose.
Former Green Wave standout and current T Club member, Kendal Francis (UC ’00), Founder/President of Blessed 26 Inc., was the guest speaker for the night. Kendal shared with the letter winners and all attendees his personal testimonies of being a student and a former member of the Green Wave football team. To read more of what Kendal and Blessed 26 Inc. are doing in the community, please visit www.blessed26.info/. Currently, Kendal is a producer for WDSU-TV Channel 6 in New Orleans.
Fellow T Club Board members, Derek Bugg (Football), Rick Crozier (Football), Jill Fayard (Volleyball),
T Club President and visionary leader behind the event, Carmen Jones (women's Basketball), Terrence Jones (Football), Jimmy Ordeneaux (Football), Bernard Robertson (Football), Deron Smith (Football), and Jeff Wenzel (Football) all represented the different eras and participated in the planning stages.
Tulane Athletics had two representatives in attendance. Sue Bower, the Assistant Athletic Director for External Operations assisted us with the student-athlete database. Brandon Spann, an intern and former member of the Olive & Blue basketball program, mingled with the letter winners offering up his knowledge. Brandon is the Founder/President of New Orleans Sports School, another positive tool for the youth in the community. For more information on NOSS, please visit www.neworleanssportsschool.org/.
The T Club Board would like to thank all who participated in putting on this event. We especially would like to acknowledge the young men and women who took the time out of their schedules to be counted, as the night belonged to them.
The NFL and the CP have partnered to find quality candidates for the 2010 Summer Internship Program. The opportunity is available for current juniors and students graduating in the 2011 school year. In an effort to provide a positive addition to the Green Wave Athletic experience, the T Club Board reached out to a career resource organization, one that can assist us towards maintaining a positive experience for our lettered men and women as they graduate or complete their eligibility from Tulane. The online job board for student-athletes current and former, will provide a platform so that the employment chances for them to succeed in a chosen profession can be enhanced. Please check back in the near future, or you can contact Terrence Jones, Assistant Director of Tulane Clubs, in the Office of Alumni Affairs by calling 504.862.8071 or you can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
