NEWS

The Olive & Blue Corner

Willow Street, NOLA -

The T Club, an athletic letter winning organization at Tulane, sponsored its 1st Year Letter winner reception on September 20, 2009 in the LBC. The first ever program of its kind at Tulane was formed for student-athletes that received an athletic letter after being on a specific team for at least a semester. In addition, the gathering signaled a holistic approach towards enhancing the athletic experience at Tulane, an understanding of what it takes to be both student and athlete while maintaining the core values of self.

The dinner consisted of 40 plus future T Club members representing various sports such as Basketball (m/w), Track & Field/Cross Country, Football and Volleyball. Each table was organized to have a T Club member from a different sport sit with the honorees to add a tangible appeal to the event’s purpose.

Former Green Wave standout and current T Club member, Kendal Francis (UC ’00), Founder/President of Blessed 26 Inc., was the guest speaker for the night.  Kendal shared with the letter winners and all attendees his personal testimonies of being a student and a former member of the Green Wave football team. To read more of what Kendal and Blessed 26 Inc. are doing in the community, please visit www.blessed26.info/ . Currently, Kendal is a producer for WDSU- TV Channel 6 here IN New Orleans.

Fellow T Club Board members, Derek Bugg (Football), Rick Crozier (Football), Jill Fayard (Volleyball),
T Club President and visionary leader behind the event, Carmen Jones (women's Basketball), Terrence Jones (Football), Jimmy Ordeneaux (Football), Bernard Robertson (Football), Deron Smith (Football), and Jeff Wenzel (Football) all represented the different era's as well as participated in the planning stages.

Tulane Athletics had two representatives in attendance. Sue Bower, the Assistant Athletic Director for External Operations assisted us with the student-athlete database. Brandon Spann, an intern,  and former member of the Olive&Blue basketball program, mingled with the letter winners offering up his knowledge. Brandon is the Founder/President of New Orleans Sports School, another positive tool for the youth in the community, for more information on NOSS, please visit www.nosportsschool.org .

The T Club Board would like to thank all who participated in putting on this event, we especially would like to acknowledge the young men and women who took the time out of their schedules to be counted as the night belonged to them.
