Choose a Law School

Although the American Bar Association (ABA) accredits law schools, there is no ABA ranking of law schools. You are advised to make an individual analysis regarding where to attend law school, much as you will while practicing law. There is no one publication or resource that could possibly capture the unique qualities of each law school.

The following factors may help narrow your choice of law schools:

  • cumulative grade point average (GPA)
  • law school admission test scores (LSAT)
  • environment (e.g. urban v. bucolic settings)
  • size breadth of curriculum
  • clinics
  • internships
  • clerkships
  • specialization
  • certificates offered
  • law reviews and journals
  • summer clerk positions
  • full or part time curriculums
  • access to both federal and state courts
  • attitude towards students
  • professor accessibility
  • technological capabilities
  • cost
  • loan repayment assistance
  • atmosphere
  • reputation (e.g. national v. regional)
  • responsive environment
  • summer and semester abroad programs
  • career services
  • alumni views
