Jacob Rosenzweig, a first-year student at Loyola University, poses for a photo snapped by Jeff Singer, a Tulane graduate student studying history. The two joined others who braved dropping temperatures and a brisk wind to witness the lighting of a giant menorah Monday night (Dec. 10) on the Lavin-Bernick Center quad. The Chanukah on the Quad celebration is an annual event that, along with the traditional lighting of the menorah, features music and latkes.

Lee Bretan, a senior majoring in anthropology and Jewish Studies, watches to see if the newly kindled flame will take.

Robert Thomas shares a flame with a friend. He is a first-year student from Shreveport, La.

Tiffany Moneit, a senior majoring in history and philosophy, shows off her new sweater. It's the first time she's worn it, she said.
