Tulane President Scott Cowen and Yvette Jones, executive vice president for university relations and development, led an entourage of Tulane representatives to Baton Rouge, La., on May 21 for the annual Tulane Day at the Legislature.
Tulane administrators, faculty and alumni advocated for education and healthcare legislation while showcasing the university’s value to the state as the largest private employer in New Orleans.
Armed with an assortment of giveaways, such as green water bottles and sunglasses bearing the Tulane University logo, university envoys enticed state senators and representatives to their display tables to chat about Tulane programs, services and contributions.“The trinkets say it’s Tulane Day, and, since they carry around these items or put them on their desks, they remind the legislators that it’s always Tulane Day,” Courtney says.
“The ‘Red Stick’ may be LSU country, but Tulane has made a mark in the Baton Rouge community, and it has been so endearing.”
