Flag Wavers of Sansepolcro

Those on the Tulane uptown campus Thursday (March 7) afternoon were offered an exciting and colorful display of cultural history as the Flag Wavers of Sansepolcro made an appearance on the Newcomb Quad. In town for several days, the group was invited to campus by the Department of French and Italian.

The group, which originates from the Renaissance town of Sansepolcro, Italy, is comprised of standard bearers, drummers and trumpeters …

The art of flag throwing was developed for military purposes, as standard bearers would lead troops into battle and communicate various orders on the battlefield.
