50th Anniversary of the Desegregation of Tulane Forum & Reception

This February 2013, marks the 50th anniversary of the desegregation of Tulane University. Half a century ago, a decision was reached by the Board of Administrators, which ended the 129 year policy that denied the admission of African Americans to the university. This kickoff program marks to beginning of a series of events throughout coming year, commemorating the anniversary as well as those African Americans who courageously challenged, enrolled and forged the trail for others to follow. Come meet some of the first African Americans to enroll at Tulane and learn about this period in the history of Tulane. Participants: Pearlie Ellioe and Barbara Guillory Thompson- Original Complainants in the desegregation case. Judge Edwin Lombard- one of the first African American men enrolled in the undergraduate program Dr. Deidre Dumas Labat- first African American female enrolled at Newcomb College Gloria Banks MSW- one of the first students enrolled at the school of social work A reception will immediately follow the event.
