The Orleans Parish Sheriffs’ Office Day Reporting Center is seeking a full time Employment Specialist. The program is an alternative to incarceration program for individuals under the supervision of Probation and Parole.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participate in weekly community outreach trips to cultivate and sustain partnerships with local employers and agencies in the greater New Orleans area that will secure employment opportunities for program participants.
  • Facilitate weekly Job Readiness classes.
  • Work with individuals on employment tasks including administering assessments, creating employment plans, and developing resumes with each program participant to identify individual skills, work history, and career goals.  
  • Timely compilation of weekly /monthly reports and daily progress notes.
  • Participate and collaborate in client staffing meetings, and weekly team meetings to ensure a continuum of care.
  • Must be capable of using a creative, strength based approach in providing clients with on-going support and accountability.
  • Maintain professionalism with a challenging population.

Interested persons with an Associate’s degree must have a minimum of 4 years experience with an at-risk population, a Bachelors degree with 3 years experience, or a Masters degree with 2 years experience. Educational exceptions can be made based on the applicants work history within this field.  Knowledge and connections with local businesses is a plus. Applicants must have strong organizational skills and be familiar with Word, Office, Excel, and Power Point Processes. Applicants must also have a valid drivers’ license and reliable transportation. Hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Salary is $32,000-$34,000 plus full benefits.

The Greater New Orleans Drug Demand Reduction Coalition is seeking an independent contractor to serve as the Project Coordinator to work with the Project Director in service of the Drug Free Community (DFC) grant. The Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the coalition including but not limited to the implementation of the GNODDRC Strategic Plan and DFC Action Plan and to be a connector between the GNODDRC Steering Council and broader New Orleans community.

The qualifications are to possess at the minimum a Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience in community and public health, community organizing, education, social work or related field. Knowledge of substance abuse prevention having worked at least 2 years with a youth serving organization and/or community mobilization efforts are preferred. Possess organizational and time management skills, as well as the ability to work harmoniously with staff, contractors, coalition members, and community leaders. Have knowledge of the youth, neighborhoods and present environment of New Orleans that demonstrates an openness, enthusiasm and caring attitude.

Green Corps Class of 2016-2017: Fall Application Deadline is October 11. In the next few months, Green Corps invite 35 college graduates to join the Green Corps class of 2016-2017.

During Green Corps' full year paid training program, participants will learn grassroots organizing skills from some of the top practitioners in the country while working on three to five different campaigns such as retiring dirty coal-fired power plants, protecting our drinking water, improving our food system and building the campus fossil fuel divestment movement. Organizers will learn important skills such as recruiting volunteers, developing strategic campaigns and building strong coalitions.

Our organizers have worked on behalf of dozens of groups including Sierra Club, Food & Water Watch, and the National Wildlife Federation. Jewish Family Service of Greater New Orleans is searching for a full-time Bilingual (English/Spanish) Case Manager to work with Post Release Services for Unaccompanied Alien Children. Jewish Family Service (JFS) a non-profit social service agency dedicated to preserving, strengthening, and enhancing the wellbeing and self-sufficiency of individuals and families at every stage of the life cycle, seeks a bilingual (Spanish) Case Manager to provide post release, follow up services to Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC). The Case Manager will be responsible for conducting calls, interviews, and home visits with UAC; developing individual case plans with particular attention to culture, language, and special circumstances; and maintaining case files. The Case Manager will provide information, education, referrals, outreach, advocacy, and support to ensure that each child receives the services they require. The case manager will assess the safety and appropriateness of the placement on an ongoing basis using child welfare principles and social work best practices. The Case Manager will also build a network of local pro bono legal resources/services and care providers to establish services for UAC, facilitate access/remove barriers to those services, and track individual progress via an online database. Additionally, the Case Manager will be responsible for submitting written reports as required, coordinating/maintaining communication with key stakeholders, and participating in regular training and communication sessions with headquarters staff.

Master’s degree (MA or MSW) required. A minimum of two years experience in case management, preferably working with, serving, and advocating on behalf of immigrant and refugee children. Experience in child welfare, child placements, and family preservation. Prior experience with social services provision. Must possess an extensive knowledge of immigrant community local resources. Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to prioritize duties in a fast-paced environment. Must have a valid driver’s license, insurance, a clean driving record, and personal transportation. Some overnight travel is required. Fluency reading and speaking Spanish required.
