Japanese plums

The fruit of a loquat hang ripe and ready to eat on a tree located not far from Newcomb Hall on the Tulane uptown campus. The plant is better known locally as Japanese plum, but also goes by the name Chinese plum, May apple, Japanese medlar and its botanical name, Eriobotrya japonica. And yes, those are azaleas in the background.
