Fraudulent Tax Return Scam

Posted: 06/11/2014

We want to alert our users to a scam victimizing university employees across the nation.

Criminals are filing fraudulent tax returns using stolen Social Security numbers and collecting tax refunds. When employees file their tax returns, they learn false tax returns have already been filed and that the IRS has sent their tax refunds to fraudulent filers.

There are numerous victims at each university, although none have been reported at Tulane. At this time, the reporting has come in from 4 different states nationwide. Victims can report cyber crime to the FBI at www.ic3.gov.

If you have any questions about this issue, please contact the TSNOC at help@tulane.edu or (866)276-1428.
