A Tulane research team headed by Dr. Anand Irimpen presented important new findings on an increase in heart attack rates in New Orleanians after Hurricane Katrina at the American College of Cardiology's Scientific Session in San Francisco. The study suggests that a stressful natural disaster could have a tangible effect on people's heart health. Read More in The Times-Picayune»

Tulane University Heart and Vascular Institute recently stepped in to repair an aortic dissection using a novel minimally invasive, saving the patient's life with a procedure that is thought to have never been preformed before. TUHVI director of vascular surgery, Dr. Albert D. Sam II lead the revolutionary procedure, repairing the tear to the aorta with minimal damage. Read More»

NIH Awards $20 Million for LA CaTS
NIH Awards $20 Million Grant for Louisiana Clinical and Translational Science (LA CaTS) Center. Tulane University Health Sciences Center is one of four Primary Collaborating Institutions to Join in this Single Louisiana Research Initiative. Dr. Patrice Delafontaine is the Principal Investigator and leader of the LA CaTS Center for Tulane University School of Medicine. The LA CaTS Center will provide an infrastructure across the academic institutions of Louisiana to facilitate research in chronic disease prevention and improved health care in underserved populations.
