By giving to the School of Medicine Annual Fund, your dollars go to work immediately, helping to defray some of the costs of medical education, allowing us to attract the best and brightest students through scholarships and the latest in teaching technologies. We are also able to continue advances in patient care and safety as well as research.
On behalf of the students and faculty at the School of Medicine, we wish to thank the 2,859 alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends who gave more than $1,142,000 to the School of Medicine Annual Fund in fiscal year 2012-2013. Your investment is a demonstration of your commitment and belief in the future of the Tulane University School of Medicine.
The Dean’s Discretionary Fund ensures the ongoing success of Tulane University School of Medicine. This fund grants the dean the ability to maintain the standard of excellence associated with our medical program. Student scholarships, curriculum enhancements, faculty salary support and equipment and facility upgrades such as the DeBakey Education Center are only some of the ways your support helps tomorrow's Tulane doctors today.
As the cost of medical education continues to rise and technology continues to advance, Tulane benefits from the flexible funding the Dean’s Discretionary Fund affords.
Through current use or restricted funds, scholarship dollars are of the utmost importance. At Tulane, most medical students graduate with an average of $205,000 in debt. With 85% of all students receiving some level of financial aid, scholarships help defray the costs and give Tulane the opportunity to attract the best and brightest students, regardless of financial capacity.

Student and faculty research is a top priority at the School of Medicine. Whether it is pilot funding to a young researcher with an exciting new idea or support for an established project currently between grants, the Fund for Research provides vital assistance for discoveries taking place every day at Tulane University School of Medicine.
Whether it be a named Professorship, supporting the work of a faculty member, a Fellowship to support the salary of a resident, or an endowment to support the work of a particular specialty, your gift will live on in perpetuity, adding to our endowment and the long-term future of the Tulane University School of Medicine.
You also have the option to restrict your gift without endowing, whether to a particular scholarship, department or research effort. These non-endowed, restricted gifts may be spent in their entirety, either in the year given or subsequently, but only for the purpose specified.
