Giving to the Tulane Cancer Center

The Tulane Cancer Center is deeply thankful to its donors for their commitment to our basic science researchers, our physician scientists, and most especially our patients. We take the trust our donors place in us through their generous contributions very seriously and offer the following funds for their consideration:

•  Tulane Cancer Center Research Fund— One of the unique aspects of care at an academic cancer center is the close partnership between the cancer clinicians who directly care for patients and the basic scientists who make the laboratory discoveries that in turn bring new treatment options to the clinical setting. At Tulane, our cancer teams include dozens of laboratory scientists who study cancer at the molecular level and use the data they obtain as well as communication with our clinicians to constantly explore new avenues in the hopes of better understanding cancer and how to cure it. Our patients benefit from this “lab bench to bedside” philosophy. The Tulane Cancer Center offers donors the option of supporting our basic science research efforts in particular cancer sites, such as prostate or breast cancer, through site-specific funds, as well as the option to more broadly support our researchers through the general cancer research fund.

•  Patient Relief Fund—The Patient Relief Fund was established in 1998 to help our patients in need meet unexpected expenses associated with their care. The Fund started as an alternative to small gift giving among faculty and staff. Instead of a tangible gift, the recipient receives an acknowledgement card stating that a donation to the Fund was made in their honor by the donor to spread solace to those in need throughout the year. The Patient Relief Fund is often the only source available to our patient navigator to solve an urgent problem for our patients. Over the years, this fund has provided help with everything from transportation, meals, and short-term housing to rental assistance for those facing eviction.

• Prostate Cancer Research Fund- The Tulane Cancer Center provides cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation with an emphasis on convenience for our patients and their families and with a team approach to comprehensive prostate cancer care.  Our Prostate Cancer Team includes world-class clinicians, plus laboratory scientists who study cancer at the molecular level and use the data they obtain as well as communication with our clinicians to constantly explore new avenues in the hopes of better understanding cancer and how to cure it. Our patients benefit from this "lab bench to bedside" philosophy.

•  Patricia Trost Friedler Center for Psychosocial Oncology Fund— The Patricia Trost Friedler Centerfor Psychosocial Oncology offers psychological, emotional, and educational support for our patients and their family members through a number of services, including individual and family counseling, a variety of support groups, wellness workshops, a resource library, and access to a patient navigator who is available to assist during outpatient clinic visits. Our counseling programs are shaped by a belief that mental and physical health are interrelated and that there are rich untapped resources deep within each person that can increase emotional well-being and lead to a healthier, happier life.

• Green Dream for Tulane Cancer Center's Pediatric Oncology Patient Relief Fund - The Green Dream was founded by Maggie Edwards in 2011 as a way to inspire the Tulane Green Wave football players to bring their A game on the field while helping children with cancer.  The funds raised by the Green Dream are an important resource that allows Tulane Cancer Center to help the families of pediatric oncology patients with special needs meet unexpected expenses associated with their care so that they can focus on getting well.
