Mercedes-Benz Superdome

The School is very excited to announce that the University-wide unified commencement ceremonies will be held on Saturday, May 18 beginning at 9 a.m. We hope you will be present to welcome His Holiness the Dalai Lama as commencement speaker.  Because of the many activities beginning on Thursday, May 16 through Saturday, May 18 associated with HHDL’s visit, the School has scheduled the School of Social Work separate commencement for Sunday, May 19 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.  While the University will confer your degree, the School's separate ceremony will present you with the actual “piece of paper” and includes MSW, Ph.D. (Social Work) and DRLA-M.S. students.  We hope you will attend both ceremonies.

Thursday, June 27 -- 12:20 p.m. to 1:20 p.m.
Magical Treatment Methods for the Traumatized: Advanced Workshop Overview
with Charles Figley and guests.
Room 103 in the Social Work Building

Trauma Thursdays is a monthly discussion of trauma and its consequences with Dr. Charles Figley and his guests. The events are held in Room 103 of the School of Social Work Building from 12:30 p.m. to 1:20 p.m.

In 1994, Dr. Figley invited four teams of clinical innovators to his laboratory at the Marriage and Family Therapy Center at Florida State University as part of the “Active Ingredient Project” that featured popular and apparently effective traumatic stress treatment methods to desensitize clients to their traumatic memories. These and other methods will be discussed, including hypnotherapy and Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP). They are remarkable in their speed in affecting stress reduction as reported by clients and research participants. With sufficient interest the Traumatology Institute may offer a weekend workshop for practitioners.

Lunch will be provided for attendees, so if you want to attend, please RSVP to Kathy Smith at krshiv@tulane.edu or 504.862.3489.
