The Tulane University Presidential Search Committee has retained Russell Reynolds Associates, one of the world's leading executive recruiting firms, to assist its efforts to find a new leader for Tulane when current President Scott Cowen steps down in 2014.

"The person who succeeds Scott Cowen is going to have to be a remarkable individual indeed," search committee co-chairs and Board of Tulane members Rick Rees and Andy Wisdom said. "Russell Reynolds Associates gives us the worldwide reach we need to find a new dynamic, bold and visionary leader for Tulane."

Russell Reynolds Associates has offices in 26 countries. Its higher education practice focuses on recruiting presidents, provosts and deans at some of the country's leading universities including MIT, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, Duke, the University of Southern California, Northwestern, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Texas, the University of Virginia, NYU, Georgetown, George Washington University and more.

The firm has a particular expertise in recruiting leaders for the Association of American Universities, an organization of 62 leading U.S. and Canadian public and private research universities, including Tulane.

Russell Reynolds' higher education practice is headed by Ilene H. Nagel, who has more than 30 years experience in higher education, including appointments in Ivy League schools and, most recently, as the chief academic officer for the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Tulane's Presidential Search Committee members, who will vet the candidates, include representatives from the university's board, faculty, students and staff.  The committee is co-chaired by Rees, co-founder and managing member of LongueVue Capital and Wisdom, principal investment management consultant for Crescent Capital Consulting. The committee plans to announce Tulane's new president by the end of 2013 or early in 2014.
