Cokie Roberts to speak at Tulane Law School Hall of Fame induction

A longtime New Orleans maritime attorney, a pioneering law professor and a former law school dean are among seven Tulanians who will be inducted into the Law School Hall of Fame on April 25.

The ceremony will take place during the Law School’s annual Alumni Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at the Marriott Convention Center.

Cokie Roberts, a political analyst for ABC News and NPR, will be the keynote speaker. She will also accept the Hall of Fame award for her father, the late House Majority Leader Hale Boggs (A&S ’35, l ’37), a member of the inaugural class of 2013.

The seven honorees (posthumous members are indicated with an *) are:

•  Robert Acomb (BBA ’51, LLB ’53), maritime lawyer, retired partner of Jones Walker and Tulane Law School adjunct professor

•  Cynthia Ann Samuel (L ’72), first woman on Tulane Law School’s tenure-track faculty, former associate dean for academic affairs

•  Paul Verkuil, former Tulane Law School dean, appointed by President Barack Obama as chairman of the Administrative Conference of the United States

•  Charles Erasmus Fenner * (L 1855), former Louisiana Supreme Court justice who helped lay cornerstone of Tulane’s Uptown campus

•  Mitchell Franklin * Tulane Law School professor and innovative scholar of U.S. constitutional law

•  John D. McCollam * (L ’59), oil and gas lawyer who taught oil and gas law at Tulane from 1963 to 1987.

•  Dorothy Wolbrette * (NC ’42, LLB ’45), administrative law judge and Louisiana assistant attorney general

The Hall of Fame, supported with a gift from Lake Charles lawyer Mike Veron (A & S ’72, L ’74) and wife, Melinda, recognizes extraordinarily accomplished alumni and legendary faculty members spanning the school’s 167-year history.
