News from Tulane

Actor and community activist Wendell Pierce indulges his audience in a wide-ranging discussion during Monday night's (Nov. 26) Direction program held in the Lavin-Bernick Center on the Tulane uptown campus. Pierce, a New Orleans native, is best known for his work on HBO's "The Wire" and, more recently, "Treme." Since Hurricane Katrina, he has been active in helping rebuild Pontchartrain Park, the neighborhood in which he was raised. On stage with Pierce is research assistant professor Julie Hernandez, an expert in community development and civic engagement.

During the course of the evening, Pierce discussed any number of topics, including  local politics, his intention to launch a supermarket chain in New Orleans, injustices to African Americans after Katrina and the loss of his mother. He capped the two-hour talk with a discussion about his work on "The Wire" and "Treme."
