The search for the next president of Tulane University has begun. “We have finalized the membership of the Presidential Search Committee,” announced Jay Lapeyre, outgoing chair of the Board of Tulane, and Darryl Berger, incoming board chair, in a letter to the Tulane community today (June 14).
Tulane University President Scott Cowen announced on May 31 his decision to retire from the presidency
on July 1, 2014. Cowen has held the post for 15 years.
Rick S. Rees and Andrew B. Wisdom, both members of the Board of Tulane, will co-chair the search committee.
In addition to Berger and Lapeyre, members of the search committee include:

Martin Davies, professor, Tulane Law School
Anthony Duh, Associated Student Body president
Michael A. Friedman, Tulane board
Sylvester Johnson, senior associate vice president for facilities
Sherry M. Leventhal, Tulane board
Laura S. Levy, vice president for research
R. Hunter Pierson, Tulane board
E. Richard Yulman, Tulane board
“As we wrote earlier, we continue to develop the process and timeline for the search,” the letter said. “It is our goal to announce a new president by the end of this calendar year. We are also preparing a website with information pertinent to the search process and we will launch the site this summer. Meanwhile, we will keep you apprised of our progress in all of these areas.”
