Chalmette National Cemetary 
Flags adorn gravestones at Chalmette National Cemetery for Memorial Day. More than 15,000 flags are placed on headstones in the cemetery, which is located in St. Bernard Parish. Established in 1864 as a burial site for Union soldiers who died in Louisiana during the Civil War, the national cemetery is located on the site of the Battle of New Orleans in 1815.
