This week the Tulane University Police Department is introducing a campuswide virtual safety escort program for Tulane students, faculty and staff members. When someone signs into the service, Rave Guardian will alert TUPD if the person fails to arrive at the intended destination on time.

“It is as simple as placing a call from your mobile phone,” says TUPD superintendent Jon Barnwell. “Our new Rave Guardian allows users to input information about their destination, including the time they expect to arrive. Upon their arrival, the user deactivates the service. Otherwise, an alarm will notify TUPD, and we will follow up with a phone call.”

This video presentation explains Rave Guardian in detail.
Registered users can create a complete caller profile that can include medical conditions, course schedule, addresses, photo and other information. Members of the Tulane community can register at this Rave Guardian site.

Those who register can call Rave Guardian from their mobile phone at any time to activate a “follow me” feature when traveling on the uptown, downtown and North Shore (Tulane National Primate Research Center) campuses, or within the one-mile TUPD perimeter jurisdiction uptown.
Rave Guardian can be activated via smart phone or cell phone. The program keeps all user profiles strictly confidential, including destination information. TUPD has no access to this information unless the alarm is activated.

“I encourage the entire Tulane community to register online, create a user profile and save the Rave Guardian phone number in your mobile phones. All it takes is a quick phone call to request a virtual safety escort,” Barnwell says.

“It’s an effective program that will instill a greater sense of security to those walking or traveling on campus, especially at night. Tulane is pleased to join a growing list of colleges and universities across the country utilizing the Rave Guardian program.”
