Alcee Fortier, a renowned author and professor of romance languages, teaches a French class in Gibson Hall circa 1905.  Fortier is the namesake for Alcee Fortier Hall, constructed in 1908, which originally housed medical students. Fortier also served as dean of Tulane's graduate department 1912-1914.
