Baroness de Pontalba

Historian Christina Vella, far right, looks on as Vanessa Rada and Lary Hesdorffer portray the baroness Micaela Almonaster de Pontalba and opera impresario LeGrand Smith during a dinner sponsored by the Tulane Office of Alumni Relations on Jan. 15. Vella was on hand to discuss her book Intimate Enemies: The Two Worlds of the Baroness de Pontalba. The baroness led a fascinating life and perhaps is best known for building the two Parisian-style row house buildings that flank Jackson Square.
