The Katharine and Robert M. Devlin '64 Internship Program offers grants to a limited number of male Newcomb-Tulane College students pursuing summer internships with alumni or in fields directly related to liberal arts disciplines. The program is underwritten by a gift from Katharine and Robert M. Devlin, a 1964 graduate of the College of Arts & Sciences who has served as president, chairman of the board, and chief executive officer of American General Corporation, one of the nation's leading financial services institutions.
Internship grants of $1,000 will be awarded through a competitive application process. The grants are intended to demonstrate the virtues and benefits of a liberal arts education by encouraging hands-on, experiential learning under the guidance of alumni sponsors and/or in fields related directly to the liberal arts.
Students seeking internships may obtain them independently or may contact sponsors suggested by Newcomb-Tulane College or the Career Services Center or other campus offices. Students are encouraged to explore the possibility of earning academic credit for internships through their major department, the Office of Service Learning, or the Center for Academic Advising. Please consult the Office of Cocurricular Programs to determine the most appropriate option for academic credit.
After obtaining an internship, students may apply for a Devlin Internship Grant by completing the application form. Submit your application by 5:00 p.m. on the 15th of the month (or the last business day before the 15th) to receive a decision by the 30th of that month.
Eligible applicants will be male Newcomb-Tulane College students in the liberal arts with thirty credits or more, who have obtained an internship with an alumnus and/or in a liberal arts field. Internships following graduation from the college are not eligible for support. Internship opportunities must be at least six weeks in duration, have well-defined duties and objectives, and involve significant exposure to the principal activities of the sponsoring organization.
