Current Funding Priorities

Gifts to Newcomb-Tulane College directly support the undergraduate student experience.  While there are a myriad of programs at Newcomb-Tulane College that need funding, these are the top funding priorities for this academic year:

Emergency Scholarship Fund for Undergraduate Students
We have identified students who have outstanding merit and outstanding need.  These awards will likely make a difference between students continuing their studies at Tulane or not. Awards are given based on need, particularly for students whose financial situation has worsened with the economic downturn.
• Each student will be awarded $2,500 per academic year

Academic Advising /Tutoring/Career Services Center
Our aim is to provide a holistic approach to the undergraduate advising experience, by linking tutoring, academic advising and career services.
• Naming of the comprehensive advising center that encompasses tutoring, academic and professional advising
• Development of MAP program (Maximizing Academic Potential) for at-risk students through the implementation of success classes
• Strengthening of tutoring program by increasing course availability, and enabling students to utilize on-line tutoring
• Support for career advising, including travel stipends for internships

Center for Global Education: International Studies and Study Abroad
With the increasingly globalized economy, we recognize how important it is for students to have exposure to different cultures.
• Travel stipends to/from study abroad experiences
• Development of local and global combination programs that integrate international studies more closely into the curriculum
• Funds to bring visitors to Tulane to enhance the international presence on campus and in the curriculum, particularly in the area of Asia and the Middle East
• Funds for Technology upgrades
• Research fund for the director

Honors Program
The Honors Program provides challenging courses, scholarly mentoring, and a comprehensive learning environment for our most academically excellent students.
• Development of new program for the top 10% of students, including curricular and co-curricular opportunities
• Funding for additional Honors Colloquia, including seed money for course development and faculty stipends

Teacher Preparation and Certification Program
This program is preparing for re-accreditation in 2010, and  needs your support for the following initiatives:
• Annual teacher workshop for pre-K to University-level educators, with nationally renowned educators as presenters
• Discretionary fund for the Director, to be used to supplement revenue from tuition
