I am an incoming freshman. Can I attend tryouts before I come to Tulane?
Absolutely! We highly encourage all interested incoming freshmen to try out in the Spring.
What do I need to bring to tryouts? Is there a fee?
Before tryouts, fill out the online information form. Please bring all other completed tryout forms, including the pre-participation physical form. Be sure to wear clothes that are you can stunt in, as well as cheer shoes or tennis shoes. You do not need to prepare any material. There is a $10 tryout fee payable by cash or check to Tulane Cheerleading.
Do members of Tulane Cheerleading receive scholarships or a stipend?
At this time, there are no university scholarships or stipends for Tulane Cheerleading members.
How often does Tulane Cheerleading practice?
Tulane Cheerleading practices two times a week for three-hour sessions. Practices are held in Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse. We also hold on field practices at Yulman Stadium in the mornings before every home football game.
Do Tulane Cheerleading members pay dues?
New members will purchase their own practice gear. The exact amount will be announced following tryouts, but is often around $150. Returning members purchase any replacement items.
Who creates the material?
Most of our material is created by the members of Tulane Cheerleading. This is supplemented by material learned at private UCA camp in the Fall.
How do the Tulane Cheerleaders stay in shape?
Tulane Cheerleading encourages healthy eating and a positive body image. In order to maintain this, the squad conditions during practice. Members are also offered the free services of the on-campus nutritionist and the Student Health Center.
