The Tulane Club of San Diego is an active group of local alumni who organize social, educational and cultural activities for Tulane alumni in San Diego and adjacent counties. The club is a constituent member of the Tulane Alumni Association (TAA.) Founded in 1898, TAA provides a forum for meaningful involvement and interaction among the university’s 105,000 alumni, its students and university leaders.
With more than 688 local Tulane alumni, proportionately the San Diego Club has the largest email list of all 60+ Tulane Clubs and we are among the most active. In 1998, we were honored by the Tulane Alumni Association with the Outstanding Club award.
Click on the Photos/Archives link to see what we’ve been up to lately. Traditionally our events have included an annual crawfish boil and Mardi Gras supper. We helped out with new student recruitment and attended College Fairs & Admissions reception; saw blues guitarist Mem Shannon at a local club and again at the N.O. Jazz & Heritage Festival; boogied with Marcia Ball at the Belly Up Tavern; cheered for our top rated baseball team at a sports bar when they beat LSU on national TV and again when they reached the College World Series; hosted a VIP tent at Gator by the Bay Cajun-Zydeco Fest at Spanish Landing; helped clean up San Diego’s beaches and assisted in the “Grunion Greeter” project which is headed by Melissa Studer N’94. Occasionally our events are held in conjunction with the Los Angeles and Orange County Clubs.
Additionally, there are email announced opportunities to attend club planning meetings, community volunteer projects, sports viewings on TV, music concerts at local nightclubs, theater outings, academic receptions and YAT (Young Alums of Tulane) happy hour networking nights. Use the E-mail Listserv link to subscribe to the San Diego list and/or the San Diego Young Alumni list.
Activities of the club are planned and organized by local alumni with the assistance of the Tulane Office of Alumni Affairs. Therefore, your ideas and help are always welcome. We’re always looking for some new volunteers to coordinate and/or help with specific events. It’s fun, so don’t be shy. Click on the Club Leadership link in order to contact anyone on the Steering Committee if you would like to become involved or want more information. Or you can click here to contact the club president, Mary Lynn Hyde, at mlhyde@tulanealumni.net
This page is an online bulletin board for local alumni to share information and ideas with each other. For example, if you are looking for a roommate, a new job, or new employee, or if you want to announce that a New Orleans band is coming to town, here's where to make your announcement.
Check out HireTulane's Alumni Page!
Since this is a free service, commercial announcements will not be accepted. Please limit posting to 100 words.

Be a Part of the Green Wave Here in San Diego!
Join us for San Diego's own version of the Tulane "Wave of Green" nation-wide community service projects. Last year's project was a Habitat for Humanity build, and this year, alum Melissa Studer (N '93) will offer what is sure to be the most unique, California-style volunteer opportunity of all—be a Grunion Greeter!
Grunion are small fish that come ashore each spring and summer to spawn on the beach at night in CA and Baja. They are found nowhere else in the world and are considered a very vulnerable species. Melissa Studer (N ‘93) is director of the Grunion Greeters, a program that studies the fish and ensures their protection from human impacts. The grunion spawn after the highest tides associated with a full or new moon, which means only during certain late nights. There’s a predicted run on April 12 that may occur anytime between 10:45 pm and 12:45 am. April is considered peak season so while there’s no guarantee, chances are good we’ll see a run. If you want to learn more, check out www.Grunion.org.
We'll get started at the home of Melissa and Chris Studer in La Jolla for a brief lesson and team huddle on Friday night, April 12 at 8:30 pm. Bring your favorite sweet treat, coffee drink and/or a dessert wine to share. We'll work up a second wind before dividing into groups and then head out to several nearby beaches in time for the predicted grunion run. You’ll be collecting simple observations for two hours that you’ll report via a web form. Your reports will provide important information for researchers and contribute to the protection of this unique fish. If you’re not up for New Orleans-style hours (remember when the party started at 11pm?), join us at the beginning to hear more about this cool fish and connect with other Tulane alums!
